TCAT Announces Guidance V1.1 Public Consultation
In Fall 2025, TCAT released the first versions (V1) of its Mitigation Action Accounting and Reporting Guidance (MAARG) and Target Accounting and Reporting Guidance (TARG). Following this release, TCAT conducted a corporate pilot, working with 13 companies across multiple sectors to review, test, and provide feedback on the guidance. After the pilot, the TCAT team consolidated the feedback received and produced updated versions of both guidance documents. These new, updated versions are referred to as V1.1 and are now available on TCAT’s website. The purpose of the V1.1 update is to improve the usability of the guidance. The changes in the guidance documents range from small (e.g., light text changes for readability) to more substantial (e.g., updating the reporting template format). A summary of all updates may be found here. Future versions of the guidance may include l additional technical updates and may address topics that require more detailed guidance, such as land use and electricity accounting.Announcing the V1.1 Public Consultation
As we continue to refine these guidance documents, TCAT is opening a public consultation on the V1.1 versions of the MAARG and TARG. We invite corporate sustainability practitioners, policy makers, and other interested stakeholders to share their expertise.
The consultation will be open for 6 weeks, closing on August 21. Your insights will directly inform the next major iteration of our guidance, V2, and will shape other strategic TCAT initiatives.
Consultation Objectives
Through this public consultation, TCAT is focused on three primary objectives:
Application Feedback: We are seeking targeted feedback on how the documents will be applied as written. Our goal is to use this practical insight to further improve clarity and usability.
Understanding the User Base: We want to understand how end users are approaching complex climate topics. This will deepen our knowledge of how the guidance relates to the current state of climate action and will inform our approach to new content.
Additional Direction: We are providing an opportunity for stakeholders to provide open-ended feedback on TCAT’s future priorities and approach.
How to Take Part in the Consultation: Visit tcataction.org/guidance-documents to review the guidance documents. You can submit your your feedback via the Submit Your Feedback button at tcataction.org/consultation. Please reach out to info@tcataction.org with any questions.
We look forward to your input!
